You Have to Experience This, To Truly Understand It!

Imagine getting the most amazingly relaxing and deep massage of your life in a Hot Yoga environment and you will start to get an idea what my Hot Lomi/Yoga Massage is all about. I promise you that it will be, by far, one of the most relaxing, enjoyable and thorough massage experiences you will ever have. To begin with, the room is very hot (90°F to 100°F) and humid (at least 60%). Your muscles start to warm up and relax before I even begin to work. The heat helps to relax your mind and your body. Many client’s report that they feel like they ‘melt into the table’.

When the muscles of the body are warmed up they become much more supple and they respond better to massage and body work. As the conscious mind and sub-conscious nervous system relax, the entire body surrenders to the work being done and I am able to get much deeper work done with much less effort.

Style of Massage
My Deep Lomi style is always at the core of all of my massage, however I also incorporate other styles like traditional Lomi Lomi, Thai Massage, Sports Massage and Swedish Massage into my Hot Lomi/Yoga Massage Experience. I tailor the style to achieve the results that you are looking for so each massage is a unique experience

Work Done
In all of my massage, I am very thorough. I work all of the areas that are normally worked on by western therapists but I can also work extensively on the areas that are often neglected by them as well if you need and want work done in these areas. Some examples are the adductors, gluteal muscles, stomach, feet and especially under the arms (which feels great and is so good for you!). We will talk about what areas you want worked on and left alone before your session so your massage is, again, tailored specifically to your needs.

Draping
The draping for Hot Lomi/Yoga Massage, although still professional is much less modest than the draping for a traditional western table massage. It is comparable to the draping using in Hawaiian Lomi Lomi style of massage and allows me to employ very long, smooth and integrative strokes in the massage. Generally this means a towel over your tush while you are laying on your stomach and then a towel over your pelvic area (and chest for females) while you are on your back.

As a side note here, you start with a full sheet covering your body and it is not removed until the Lomi Towels are in place. You are then covered with the full sheet for turning and again it is not removed until the Lomi Towels are in place. If you have any concerns about draping, please talk to me before your massage.

Benefits of Heated Massage
Besides just providing the perfect environment for a wonderful and relaxing massage experience, heated massage has some specific benefits over and above non-heated massage.

Relaxation and Stress Relief
The number one additional benefit is complete relaxation and stress relief. The heat of the room relaxes the body, improves circulation and stimulates the release of endorphins – the body’s naturally produced pain relieving and feel good chemical. Endorphins can have a mild and enjoyable tranquilizing effect and have the ability to quell the pains of arthritis and muscle soreness from things like an intense physical workout or just sitting at a desk all day. All of this combines to produce an incredibly relaxed state for you body and your mind.

Natural Healing
Body temperature rises from the heat of the room and the massage work, causing blood vessels to dilate and circulation to increase. The increased blood flow accelerates the body’s natural healing process – soothing aches and pains and enabling the healing process.

Toxin Flushing
In today’s lifestyles, many of us don’t actively sweat on a daily basis. Deep sweating has multiple health benefits and believe me, you will sweat during your heated massage session.

As the core body temperature begins to rise. The blood vessels dilate, causing increased blood flow. As heat from the blood moves toward the skin surfaces and the core body temperature rises, the body’s nervous system sends signals to the millions of sweat glands covering the body. As the sweat gland are stimulated they produce sweat. Sweat production is primarily for cooling the body, and is composed of 99% water-but deep and prolonged sweating can help reduce levels of lead, copper, zinc, nickel, mercury and chemicals-all toxins commonly picked up from our environment. In addition, the deep body work that I do during my heated massage session acts to rapidly accelerate the flushing of toxins through the liver, stomach mucosa and lymph system.

Skin Cleansing
When deep sweating occurs, the skin is cleansed and dead skin cells are replaced, keeping your skin in good working condition (did I mention that you will definitely sweat during your heated massage?).

Sweat rinses bacteria out of the epidermal layer and sweat ducts. Cleansing of the pores improves the capillary circulation and gives the skin a soft, beautiful appearance. Dr. Ben H Douglas, a professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and author of “Ageless: Living Younger Longer,” states “Sweating is a way of energizing the skin almost the way exercising a muscle energizes it.” He goes on to explain, when you sweat, the rush of fluid to the skin “bathes skin cells with a liquid rich in nutrients,” which “fills in the spaces around the cells” and even plumps up tiny wrinkles. He says the nutrients and minerals in sweat “are essential to maintaining the collagen structure of the skin.” Thus, bathing your skin in sweat on a regular basis staves off the collagen breakdown that results in wrinkles and sags. By continually flushing body waste through individual cells, one eventually brings back vitality, tone and a healthy glow to the skin. Heated massage is one great way to promote this.

Preparing for Your Heated Massage Session

  • Drink a lot of water (before and after your heated massage session). The more hydrated you are, the more your body can respond to all of the effects of the heated massage session.
  • Try not to eat right before your massage, it is best to not eat a big meal within 90 minutes of your massage.
  • Bring an energy snack for after your massage, you will need it! I keep power bars and fruit on hand just in case.
  • Think of any questions that you might have about your massage before your appointment so that you can get them answered before your massage.
  • If you have any concerns about the effects of the heated massage on your body or if you have any medical conditions, check with your doctor before your appointment.

After Your Heated Massage Session

  • Drink a lot of water. Your body and mind will need it. Also remember that water by itself does not replace salt and electrolytes, so make sure you are getting this in as well. Especially after losing a lot of body fluids (sweating).
  • Eat a light energy snack.
  • I have a private bathroom and shower for clients that you are welcome to use at my home studio in Magnolia.
  • If you have extra time and I do not have another client coming in right after you, you are welcome to relax in the massage room for as long as you need after your session. Just ask me about this before we start and I will let you know what is available.
